14 Airplane Etiquette Tips for Your Summer Travels

by Diane on May 28, 2010

If an airplane trip is in your travel future, there are a few etiquette tips that will make your travels, and your fellow travelers, much more comfortable.

  1. Arrive early and plan to wait
  2. Turn your cell phone off (starting in the line at the ticket counter)
  3. Stay in your own seat and when you get up, don’t hoist yourself up with the seat in front of you
  4. Be careful not to kick the back of the seat in front of you or lean your chair back into your neighbor’s lap
  5. Don’t assume your neighbor wants to talk
  6. Respect parents with babies and small children
  7. Don’t sing along or hum to your iPod
  8. If you are frequent bathroom flyer – choose an aisle seat
  9. Go light on the cologne, avoid tuna and strong smelling carry on foods, and keep your shoes on!
  10. Read your own magazine
  11. Don’t monopolize the flight attendant’s time
  12. Use your own luggage bin and don’t move someone else’s luggage to another bin
  13. Wait your turn to depart the plane – don’t forge in front of everyone because you are “late”
  14. Check the name on your luggage tag before leaving the airport terminal
