Etiquette Tips for Helping New Moms
What New Moms Really Want but are Too Afraid to Ask For: HELP!
1. Offer to take her other children to the park or a movie or for an afternoon play date
2. Drop off dinner (several times) throughout the next few weeks
3. Organize a “Casserole Rotation” where a group of friends gets together and makes a meal once a week for several weeks
4. Offer to run errands to the pharmacy, grocery store, dry cleaner, etc.
5. Take the children to their multiple sports practices and after school dance class (and feed them on the way home)
6. Schedule a time that is good with mom to visit the baby and also give mom a break so she can shower, shave her legs or take a nap
7. Babysit for a couple of hours while mom indulges in a mani/pedi (your treat)
8. Do her laundry or at least offer to do parts of her laundry like towels and kids clothes
New Mom Pet Peeves:
1. Coming over for a “quick visit” and overstaying your welcome
2. Trumping her labor stories, “That’s nothing, I was in labor for 3 days!”
3. Mention how easy it was to lose your baby weight when she is still struggling with hers
4. Grimace when she mentions that she plans to go back to work, “How can you leave your baby?”
5. Touch, kiss and cuddle the baby before washing your hands
6. Say “I want to help you” and never follow up with a call
7. Engage in the “My baby is smarter, faster and has more hair” contest
