I routinely appear on Good Day Austin, Fox 7, where we cover a variety of etiquette related topics based on the feedback we receive from the viewers. Appropriate behavior at business functions is always a favorite subject to discuss. With the start of a new season, companies are gearing up for their fall mixers and networking events. Tuesday we tackled a few commonly asked networking dilemmas. Here’s the short quiz below… see how you measure up. A side note, we did have some fun with Dave’s introduction.

At a Networking Event…

1. The first thing you should do when you arrive is…

  • Get a drink to appear at ease.
  • Look for your host to say “hello.”
  • Scan the room to find someone you know.

2. Your nametag is placed on which side of your body?

3. When being introduced to a client or new business associate…

  • Men stand up and women stay seated.

  • Use both your first and last name in an introduction.
  • Use only your first name, along with a genuine smile.

5. When a person mispronounces your name you should…

  • Let it slide so you don’t embarrass them.
  • Casually hand them a business card to help them remember.
  • Correct them and give them a memory clue such as spelling it phonetically.
