Easter Table Dining Etiquette

03 Apr 2015 By: Diane Gottsman

The Easter Bunny will be hopping into your home this Sunday and whether you are hosting a large family dinner or a special dinner for two, exercising a few dining etiquette rules will make the experience even more pleasant and enjoyable. Celebrate Magazine and Southern Lady Magazine offer some beautiful examples for your Easter festivities.

Here are my recommendations for Easter Table Dining Etiquette:

Set a pretty table. An Easter celebration is a perfect time to dress your table to impress. No need for matching china, just mix and match to your hearts content. Varying colors and hues will liven the table and brighten spirits. An assortment of fresh flowers adds a lively touch.

Wow your guests with every detail. Who can resist a malted ball resting in their soup bowl as they approach the table to take a seat? Not me! Everything from the beautiful napkin rings to the colorful china will make your guests feel special.

You don’t have to go far to create a beautiful centerpiece. This pillar candle, filled with jelly beans in a hurricane lamp is the perfect touch to any tablescape. You choice of décor can range from simple to formal. The theme is completely up to you. Look around in your closet, or visit a family member and ask to borrow a piece or two from their silver collection for your Easter table.

Don’t start to eat until everyone at the table is seated and the host encourages you to begin. This is a common courtesy for any occasion when you are invited to a brunch, lunch, or dinner affair. Letting your host lead the way shows respect and emphasizes your knowledge of guest etiquette.

Place your napkin on your lap and don’t set it on the table again until the end of the meal. If you must excuse yourself during the meal, lay your napkin on the seat of the chair, or resting on the chair’s armrest.

Have a grand finale. Wow your guests with an eye pleasing delicacy at the end of the meal. [Tweet “Nothing says “Happy Easter” quite like a beautifully decorated treat.”] Dazzle them with your dessert skills – it only looks difficult to make! Here’s a recipe for you to try.

Create a dessert table with young fingers in mind. Children often appreciate foods they can grab and go. Decorate an inviting table that kids of all ages will love.

Give the kids a project that adults will also enjoy. Dye eggs and take them home in a basket. Make your favorite egg salad sandwich to share with your coworkers or friends during the week.

Say goodbye to your guests with a sweet surprise. Extend the fun by sharing some recipes from your favorite cookbook.
