I’ve been invited to a Summer wedding in another state and am having a hard time deciding what to bring for the occasion. The wedding and reception will be held at a botanical garden. Any suggestions on my packing list? – T.A.
A: Dear T.A.,
The beautiful garden backdrop sounds like a lovely site for a wedding and will make for countless outfit possibilities, not to mention a stream of great photo opportunities. Here are a few of my wedding travel attire essentials.
Summer Wedding Etiquette: Packing Suggestions
- A timeless dress in a striking color. Take inspiration from the setting and opt for a cheerful coral, or a soothing pastel or floral sheath if the wedding is in the early afternoon. A festive sundress is another good option. For a more formal evening ceremony, a long, breezy dress with a light wrap would be the perfect choice.
- A statement piece. Bring your look to life with a tasteful stunner. Nothing too extreme, bulky, or expensive. Pack a few options to mix and match over the next few days of lunches, dinners and wedding festivities.
- A stacked or wedge heel. For navigating the gardens with ease, be conscious of your heel choice. A spiked heel will sink into the grass and you may end up with a muddy mess. Give your selection some careful thought – dressy but practical is best.
- Your favorite cosmetics. A sheer lip shade, a light blush, and a mascara that won’t run in the heat are all my “must have” favorites. Don’t forget to bring along a bottle of nail polish (pack in a sturdy zip lock bag) for a quick touch-up.
- Cozy pj’s and a few to-go spa treatments. Make use of your time by packing a mini size face mask and invigorating foot scrub to treat yourself after a long day of travel.
- Sun protection. Toss a few sunscreen wipes into your purse for your shoulders and a touch up compact for your face. My favorite is AMOREPACIFIC SPF Compact.
- A subtle or decorative clip for your hair. If the humidity makes your hair stick to the side of your face, pull it back and away with a pretty clip rather than a scrunchie or chunky chip clip.
