It comes as no surprise… Mother’s Day rolls around every May.
But showing mom how much you love and appreciate her doesn’t have to drain you of your time or money. I recently shared my thoughts with USA Today on how to treat your mom to a special day without breaking the bank.
Here are a few more tips if you are struggling to find some inspiration.
Share a Meal and an Experience
While a present is nice, the time you spend with your mom or special person, doing something meaningful is more valuable than any gift. Learn something new together by attending a painting or cooking class or relax and spend time catching up during a day trip to the spa. Your time is the perfect gesture for the woman who has it all.
Pamper vs Practical
Chances are, mom can go out and buy herself a brand new toaster but she may not treat herself to a luxurious new robe or a bright, pretty piece of luggage. Think of something she wouldn’t splurge on for herself.
Rosé All Day
Select a theme and design your gift around one of her favorite things. For example, if you know she likes Rosé wine, a gift basket filled with Rosé-themed goodies is the perfect treat. Top it with a pretty pink bow and a heartfelt card for the final touch.
Get Together with Your Siblings
Rather than having mom go from one house to the next, get together with your sisters and brothers and make it a family affair. Arrange a fun picnic at the park or treat her to Sunday brunch at her favorite local restaurant. Surrounding her with abundant laughter, joy and love is the ultimate way to honor her on Mother’s Day.
Don’t Limit the Celebration to the 13th
Perhaps the distance between you and your mother has proven to be a bit of an obstacle, or maybe it’s been difficult to gather the family together for Mother’s Day weekend. Whatever the difficulty may be, your celebration of mom shouldn’t be limited to May 13th. Set aside some time and arrange the festivities for a weekend that works well for all–mom included!
Invite a Friend or Family Member
Your Mother’s Day celebration can also include someone who is near and dear to your heart: a stepmom, former teacher, family friend or a neighbor. She might not have given birth to you but if her presence has made a positive impact on your life, that is definitely something worth celebrating.
Make a Call or Visit
Remember those who have lost a loved one and let them know you are thinking of them. Holidays such as this one can be particularly difficult. Reach out and lend support to those who may be grieving on this special day.
