One thing you can surely count on each Super Bowl is a table filled with delicious food. It doesn’t take quite as much work when you plan your menu in advance. Get your shopping list together, order online, pick it up curbside and you are ready to roll. My Sunday celebration will be quite small, to include a fire pit and a few tried and true palette pleasers. Even though there won’t be a large crowd this year, the food won’t disappoint. Keep reading for a few of my favorite Super Bowl menu ideas.
My Super Bowl menu will include:
Hawaiian Sliders with Caramelized Onions
My sweet friend Laurie serves this dish at every celebration. It reminds me of her each time I make it and the reviews are always positive.
Ingredients:
Bag of favorite brand Hawaiian rolls
¼ cup mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
1 ½ lb. deli turkey, ham or your favorite meat
¼ cup Dijon or honey mustard
1 lb. swiss or preferred cheese
Caramelized onions – butter or olive oil, one large yellow onion, salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste.
Topping:
8 tbs. melted butter (not margarine)
½ cup Worcestershire sauce
1 tbs. poppy seeds
Directions:
With a serrated knife, cut buns horizontally and set the bottom half on a large sheet pan. Layer with mayo and deli meat, swiss cheese and onions and repeat process. Spread mustard on the inside of the top layer.
Drizzle poppyseed dressing on the top of the Hawaiian rolls and bake the sliders until the top is golden brown. (approximately 10 minutes)
Sheet Pan Nachos – 5 Simple Rules for Making the Best Nachos In Town
- Fry your own tortillas. Cut your tortillas in quarters or think strips (whichever you prefer) and fry them in a good quality oil. I like mine a little brown, almost burnt, but it’s your preference as to how much you fry them.
- Use a variety of delicious cheese. Don’t stick to the staple cheddar or Colby Jack. Use swiss, mozzarella, parmesan or whatever your taste buds crave. Combine them for a gooey good flavor.
- Warm the chips on a sheet pan. This is not the time to toss a plate in the microwave. Make an even layer on a large sheet pan and load those babies up with black beans, corn, jalapenos, refried beans and chicken, beef or shrimp. Top it all with the above mentioned cheese.
- Offer a side bowl of guacamole. Nachos are even better with the spicy, green accompaniment.
- Make your own salsa. In a food processor, add chopped tomatoes, a mild yellow onion, fresh garlic, jalapeno to taste, a small can of crushed tomatoes and blend. Let it sit for a few hours. Add salt and pepper to taste. Delish.
