The cozy fabrics, the luxe colors, the inviting aroma of pumpkin bread baking or your favorite fall scent lingering as you sink into an autumnal read or movie … I love all things fall, and I know many of you do as well! There couldn’t be a more perfect time to seek out things that make you sparkle (inside and out). If you’ve been inspired to create your own fall “glow up,” we’ve pulled together 7 tips that will have you feeling like the best version of yourself. Let’s spread even more seasonal inspiration with one another—be sure to tag me @dianegottsman as you share photos from your process.
How to Have a Fall “Glow Up”
Fall In Love With Sacred Mornings
Taking time to savor your morning (and your pumpkin spice creamer) is an act of self-care. Pause to relish in the crisp air, admire the changing landscape and put on your favorite ambient playlist. If you haven’t already, take some deep breaths and plenty of fresh air just beyond your front door. Your fall glow up begins on the inside. Seek out ways to cultivate peace and gratitude in your heart.
Journal Your Seasonal Goals
The change of seasons is ripe for setting goals. Jot down your thoughts in your new journal. Mine is orange, of course! Browse fall journal prompts and let your thoughts flow onto the page. This can be a wonderful time to release old expectations and declare new affirmations for yourself and your family. The excitement of a new dream is invigorating and uplifting.
Plan a (Few) Fall Weekend Getaway(s)
There are countless activities this time of year, but narrow down the list to your top three outings. Some may require a trip out of town, along with the cutest Airbnb you can find. Others may be as simple as grabbing a cozy flannel shirt and a sturdy tote for an afternoon of apple picking. If you have little ones, a fall hayride or visit to the pumpkin patch can be a beloved tradition. A little fall sunshine looks good on you!
Embrace Seasonal Scents
Scent is a powerful tool—it can transport you to favorite memories and change your mood. From pumpkin to vanilla, apple to clove, cedarwood and other woodsy notes, a simple spritz can brighten your spirits or elevate the feel of a room. This can be a fun time to layer favorite fragrances or try out a new seasonal oil blend.
Bring In Your Favorite Fall Colors
Even if the weather isn’t super cool where you live, you can transition your wardrobe to fall through your color palette. Introduce burnt oranges, soft reds, moody greens and beyond, and layer your jewelry as you wish. This is an ideal time to donate clothing that no longer serves you. You can also play around with color and techniques with your makeup and nails or ask for a fresh, fall hairstyle at your next visit to the salon.
Set a Pretty Table
This year, I am going to incorporate cream, in addition to my traditional orange table settings. I’m not doing away with the orange, but I am going to bring out my favorite creams and whites. I’m also giving my white pumpkins a new look with some greenery and votive candles.
Reestablish Lost or Taken For Granted Relationships
If someone has been on your mind, but you feel guilty for not reaching out sooner, allow the change of seasons to prompt you to pick up the phone. You may even share a favorite fall memory or invite them on a fall date to catch up. Reconnecting with a longtime friend during this season of change can be just what your heart needs.
