Sharing Words of Wisdom

Just recently I was thinking about the best advice I was ever given and posted a request on Twitter, asking for more “Best advice” and words of wisdom.  I decided to compile a list from some favorite Twitter friends, listed in alphabetical order. The following is their input along with their Twitter name. There are two comments that immediately stand out for me.

The first one is comes from my former boss and mentor, Rieva Lesonsky, former Entrepreneur magazine editorial director and now CEO of Grow Biz Media. I remember standing in her office and her telling me, “You can’t wait, you have to build it!” I know it sounds like something out of “Field of Dreams,” but she was referring to my website, Hitched. For many months I met with her to discuss strategy and ideas and she finally stopped me in my tracks to put the talk into action. Within a month hitchedmag.com was up and running and we’ve been publishing ever since.

The second piece of advice I received came while I was in college. I was taking a journalism course and my professor, Don Menn, said to the class “Always start at the top.” This applies to anything from interview requests to searching for a job. I’ve used this many times over the years when I’m thinking about the next step I need to take on a new endeavor. This doesn’t mean that I circumvent the proper channels; rather it’s more like the phrase, “Dream Big” while putting it into action.
