I’m sharing a few meaningful gift ideas for two special occasions quickly approaching: Mother’s Day and Graduation. These suggestions may be helpful when you’re not sure what to gift the new grad or are looking for something unexpected that will delight your mom.
Mother’s Day and Graduation Etiquette (via Fox 7)
Mother’s Day Gift Ideas:
- A sweet and feminine robe that she will love to wear. This says “relaxation” and is even more delightful with a spa certificate!
- Although most kitchen appliances are a don’t, if mom is health-conscious and loves to experiment with new techniques, splurge on a high-end juicer, Vitamix, or other designer item she wouldn’t normally treat herself to.
- For something from the kids, consider a cute gardening-inspired gift, such as a pot or pitcher with herbs and a handwritten note inviting mom to start a garden together.
Mother’s Day Gift Don’ts:
- Stay away from fitness gear or anything that implies she needs to lose weight.
- Another “no” is cleaning supplies and related items.
Graduation Gift Ideas:
- They’ll put it to good use as they build their business wardrobe.
- iTunes gift cards. If you’d rather give a gift card, consider one for the iTunes store and if it’s a family gift, Bose speakers are a great idea.
- A nice pair of sunglasses. Purchase their favorite brand and style and package it up in an elegant carrying case.
- A first aid kit. For the graduate to store in their car or new office. This is a thoughtful gesture since most won’t keep band aids on hand otherwise.
- An executive umbrella. Look for one that’s compact with a classic design.
Graduation Gift Don’ts:
- Avoid gifting a pen set, no matter how nice it may be. Most graduates won’t be excited at this gift. Sheet sets are also a “no,” especially for college grads.
- Though it may seem fun, graduates aren’t thrilled about receiving sunscreen and beach towel either.
